Susie Mcgrade is the owner of the Rabaul Hotel where I stayed and runs the Rabaul Historical Society with curator Albert Konie.  My novel Beyond the Bukubuk Tree: A World War II Novel of Love and Loss features a protagonist inspired by an uncle I never met, a doctor in Lark Force, the lone battalion that met a full Japanese invasion. These attendees are reading my flier about the novel, Like me, they are descendants of Lark Force solciers.
